Pendle Frozen Foods is a family-run business supplying wholesale and frozen foods from their cold store in Lancashire. The company was founded in 1973 and specialises in fried chicken products.
Pendle use energy-consuming freezers at their cold store. Faced with rising energy prices, they decided to take action and invest in renewable energy. With the help of Low Carbon Energy, they installed a 111 kW solar array on the roof of their factory.
These solar panels have a total annual output of 88,800 kWh, more than enough to cover the energy requirements of their freezers.
Benefits of installing solar panels included:
- reduced carbon emissions
- lower energy bills
- the potential for making money from feeding unused energy back into the national grid
